Whether it is looked upon as an ambitious Californian transplant, an experimental oddity in urban planning or the utopian post-war new town, Central Milton Keynes is a place that has, by most popular accounts, struggled with its own identity. Though arguably unlike anything else in the country, today the town supposedly finds itself so removed from what it was once built and promised to be, this reputation making repeaters out of the non-residents experiencing it.

Informed by archived urban-planning material, conversations with local residents, contemporary preconceptions and fleeting personal impressions at its base, Best Laid Plan attempts to expand on the filtered vision insisted by stereotype whilst experimenting with the photographic convention of similar "portrait of a place" projects.
